Subject: Cheap SCSI Controllers w/ 386dx40 Motherboard
Date: Wed, 24 Feb 1993 17:08:23 GMT

I have a 386sx 16Mhz system with a Seagate ST-02 SCSI host adapter. I
would like to upgrade to a 386dx 40Mhz motherboard (the UNX
motherboard, which has 1 local bus slot and upgradability to a 486dx2
50 Mhz chip). The ST-02 does not work with the motherboard due to
some timing problems.

My question: I don't have an awful lot more money available to me at
the moment. I might be able to afford a Future Domain TMC850, which
is an 8-bit card that will work with Linux. I could probably also
swing for an Adaptec 1522 or a DTC 3280. A friend of mine has had
problems with the DTC and 386dx40 motherboards, however, and the
support reps weren't sure if a BIOS upgrade might work. Would I have
any problems with these boards under Linux? Would any of them work
with the motherboard at all, or should I save my pennies for later?

Thanks in advance!
