From: acohen@world.std.com (Aaron Michael Cohen) Subject: Installation Q's Date: Wed, 24 Feb 1993 16:42:04 GMT
I have just installed the .99 SLS release of Linux. I have read
all the FAQ's that I could get my hands on, but I'm having some
problems getting the color server to work with X.
Right now my system looks like this:
386 25MHz clone
4 Meg RAM
65 Meg Conner IDE drive
STB Powergraph 512K Video Card with ET4000 chip
Trackman Busmouse
I have also set up the monochrome server and an 8 Meg swap area
and these all work fine.
The problem is when I try to use the color server. After tinkering
with the video parameters, I can get something that looks reasonable:
256 colors, 800 x 600 virtual and screen resolution.
BUT, when I pop up menus or drag windows around, vertical lines and
points appear on the screen when the window was moved from. It looks
like the server is incompletely erasing windows.
ALSO, when a text window scrolls, the entire screen gets fuzzy. Things return
to being sharp when the scrolling is complete.
I'm sorry if this problem has come up before and I missed it, but
I couldn't find anything like this in the FAQ's or in the current
messages.
Any help would be appreciated.
Aaron.
