That isn't necessarily a bug...
What if someone logs in remotlely and uses the disk drive ?

Yes it does core dump on other machines (it did on Dec Ultrix)
 - The author posted a patch a while ago (just after its release)
I'll see if I can dig it up...

do
hostname avalon.softland.com
instead of just hostname avalon
and it should be fine.
