Normally yes, but Mike couldn't seen to understand that coming off with
an incredible snotty attitude in the first place would get him flamed
in return.

A good many people that have used linux for a while will generally go out
of their way to be helpful. Myself included here. But, if it's obvious
that someone just didn't read everything available first, then I have
little sympathy. This sort of thing happens everytime new libs, X11, or
gcc is released. Most poeple just want to untar everything and be done
with it, when reading the docs would take 5 minutes more, and cut down
the S/N ratio here quite considerably.
