Subject: Gnu-Make incompatibility ? Compiling smail failed ...
Date: Mon, 22 Feb 1993 11:16:40 GMT

Yesterday I tried to compile smail 3.1.28 under linux 0.99pl5 and
experienced a strange problem: The gnu-make coming with linux
seems to be incompatible with the standard make.

When I do a make in conf, I get the following:

Build targets under arch ...
gmake[1]: Nothing to be done for `all'.
Build targets under driver ...
gmake[1]: Nothing to be done for `all'.
Build targets under os ...
gmake[1]: Nothing to be done for `all'.
Build targets under lib ...
gmake[1]: Nothing to be done for `all'.

The same happens when I do a full build which fails later on because
the conf-information has not been processed.

Has anyone seen this before ? Is there a work around ? Do there
exist any other make-variants ?
