Linux should not be a system you have to be a hacker to use,
but a system you can hack. This is the only other free unix available
and you can't expect put up a sign 'unix gurus only need apply, all
else put up, or shut up'. There are alot of people here who's first
exposure to unix will be Linux, or BSD. There's nothing you can do
about it, it's free and people are going to come here first. You can't
expect everyone to know how to use this, and they are asking
questions. Making things simpler keeps the COL traffic down, and
that's something everyone would like.
Recently people on COL have developed am attitude that'll kill
off Linux real quick. I tried to point out an inaccuracy in a major
package and got:

People complain about the traffic on the net, and all the
questions, but '/usr/X386/doc/NOTES-1.2' isn't really the place for
install instructions, especially if there is a file that comes with
the tar files as install instructions.
Why should I, or anyone else who's seen this thread want to
contribute to Linux? I have friends, who are very competant in their
fields, been told they don't know what they are talking about by
people on this group & in the lists. They don't want anything to do
with Linux now beacuse of the attitude sent their way. I remeber a
posting from someone who got flammed off the TAPE list for asking a
tape related question. I tend to email alot of people help on things
when they ask questions about things I've had trouble with.
When someone points out "this is confusing, please change it"
and they get falmed for it, that's sad.
I would like Linus' opinion on this matter.
