Subject: ADAPTEC 1510 on LINUX --> 1542B?
Date: Thu, 18 Feb 1993 22:47:28 GMT

        I have opted for the cheap and nasty way out of scsi setup's,
in that instead of purchasing the more expensive 1542 card, I could
only afford the 1510.

        The 1510 is basically the 'baby version' of the adaptec cards
in that it is a 'single chip' card with no boot ROM and no floppy
controller. It is supposed to work just like at adaptec 1520/1522 -
which it does quite well using the dso aspi drivers.

        My question is one of being unsure. Does the 1542B driver
autodetect the 1510 card or is it a completely incompatible card? The
boot-up sequence cannot find a scsi host or device, so my first
response is that they won't work.

        BUT, on a separte partition, OS/2 2.0 won't work on the scsi
card either, even though the 1510 is quoted as one of the
'automatically' supported cards for os/2 2.0.

        SO, my question is basically meant to confirm for me whether
the device is supposed to work OR I have dodgey card. I would prefer
that it were the latter as this is something I can do something about.
Otherwise end of the road..........
