I've received numerous comments (mostly corrections) after my release of
the latest "Linux Device List". Thanks to all those who replied!
Aside from fixing up the list, I've been working on a new shell-script to
create the proper devices. This however, has raised some questions...
1.) How many different filenames can a single directory hold?
If I create *all* possible devices, there's gonna be OVER
SIX HUNDRED devices all stuffed into the "/dev" directory.
Is that okay for all the different filesystems or am I
going to have to limit it?
2.) What's a "QIC" tape? Shouldn't it be under Major number 7
(the one reserved for non-SCSI tapes)?
3.) I just found two *more* devices under the SLS distribution...
They're called /dev/loop0 and /dev/loop1 with a Major
number of 12. Should they be there? What are they?
4.) Someone, please, explain to me the difference between all those
memory (Major number 1) devices. The HJ and SLS distributions
don't even have "/dev/mem" mknod'd to the same minor number.
What gives?
Enlighten me.
