Subject: Ftp-ing to the linux box

I am unable to ftp to the linux box somehow. It lets me go through the
login process but then says

 530 User root access denied

I have root in my /etc/ftpusers file and I can ftp from the linux box to
other sites just fine.

Does someone know what I need to do to get ftp working?
