Subject: Notebook & VGA settings for console? (LIBREX 386SX)
Date: Tue, 16 Feb 1993 15:50:09 GMT

Just installed the SLS 1.0, Kernel 0.99pl4 on my Librex 386SX
20Mhz (4/60) notebook pc. It works really nice (except for some progs
like top and some menues).

As the X11 interface is really too big for my minimal HD and 4
meg memory, I am planing to use it mostly from the console. The lilo
setup gets the screen mode to 80x25 but it seems the screen could use
some 5 more lines (or bigger fonts, like an utility called ULTRA does).

The question is (sorry I didn't look 100% in all the scattered
manuals over tsx-11) if some notebook users get:

        - more than 25 lines without going to some ridiculously small
          character size VGA mode.

In other aspects, has anyone use MGR with the VGA screen to
do the following:

        - Preview TeX produced DVI files (it may be there)

        - get Gnuplot to work under MGR (it may exist already)

Thanks for any pointer to any information about this.

                        Thanks & Saludos,

Ps: By the way, Linux really the 20mhtz 3896sx really fast... even
emacs comes up fast (and that is quite a lot to say). In general
it looks good. Still I would like to see a 1.0 kernel and a mature
basic distribution set but it is impressive as it is!
