why don't you just make the /usr/spool/lp* directories mode 777?
Is there a particular reason this is not ok ?
(yes, I got tcp/ip and lpr working in about 3 minutes on the first try
by doing this...including printing as a non-privileged user).
I'm running SLS 0.99-4.
