I've finally managed to arrange the disk space to get Linux loaded onto
my system and running. However I can't seem to get X386 running at all.
I've read all the doc files I can find and edited the Xconfig but to no
avail.
As soon as I run startx, the system reports video modes, etc, seems fine
and then flips into graphics mode. I get a screen full of black and
white hatches with some distorted patches that look as though they might
be corrupted text.
Then the system just hangs and requires a reset. Editing the Xconfig
will change the resultion of the display, but the end result is always a
system lockup. I am using an ET-4000 video adapter and a Panasonic SVGA
display. My CPU is a 386DX/40 and Linux is loaded onto a 120MB IDE
drive.
I've tried disabling Video and BIOS shadowing but that made absolutely
no difference (that I could see).
Any help with this would be VERY much appreciated.
Thanks,
Don
