I can only handle one of your problems, Kay.

The device names for the serial ports have been *changed* (officially).
You'll need to make sure you have the proper devices matched to the proper
names, and then go change any references to the old names in any set-up
or configuration files you may have.

Serial dial-in lines are now "ttyS0" through "ttyS3" for the usual four.
They have a Major number of 4, as before, and minor numbers 64 thru 67.

The new dial-*out* devices are called "cua0" thru "cua3" and have a
Major number of *5* while using the same minor numbers (64-67).

Use the "mknod" command to create the new devices.
They're all of type "c" ("c"haracter, not "b"lock).
