Subject: Problems with gcc2.3.3 and ps/top/w etc.
Date: 15 Feb 1993 12:55:10 GMT

Scenario:
I decided to get the source for .99p5 and recompile the kernel for my 486. That
went fine without a hitch. (I did the ps -U afterwards).

I then realised that I still had gcc 2.2.2, so I got 2.3.3. I installed the 486
stuff from tsx-11:pub/linux/GCC/486, and then suddenly ps,top,w all started
screwing up with /dev/kmem read errors.

I figured that my psdatabase had screwed up for some reason so I re-compiled the
kernel with gcc2.3.3. Then did a ps -U. BUT, it still didn't fix the problem.

I checked, and it IS creating a new /etc/psdatabase, but ps doesn't like it.

I assume therefore that something to do with putting hlu's 486 images on my
system has screwed something up somewhere.

Anyone got an idea what's going wrong?

Cheers,
Ed
