Subject: 99.5 Kernel breaks serial logins
Date: 15 Feb 1993 10:32:13 GMT

Hi!

Well, I upgraded my kernel to 99.5 a few days ago, and wondered why I couldn't
login via the serial port. Symptom? : After typing the login name, /bin/login
freezes, not printing "password:". Since I'm using LILO with multiple images,
I tried it with 99.4. No Problem. Oh yes, I tried 995 in autoconfigure, and
not-autoconfigure modes with the serial driver.

I am using:

Computer: Viglen Genie Professional
Processor: Intel 486DX33
Memory: 20MB
Serial Ports: 2 X 16450 UARTS.
Kernel: Standard 99.5 with changes to Space.c. Ext2 file system. Sound board.
UK Keyboard. No bus mice. 486 Optimisations. The usual works!
Getty: Tried with agetty, and /bin/getty. Speeds 19200, and 9600.

IE, this is 100% repeatable for me.

If anyone else has comments, or has experienced the same problem, I'd love to
know.

Chris
