: Had you used the program 'useradd' for adding the user ingres?
Had you not read what I had originally written? I had added the user
"ingres". I guess I didn't say that I used useradd to do that.
: I believe it
: is not be enough to add a line to the password file using an editor
: (because of /etc/shadow).
I also gave user ingres a password. It STILL failed.
But I found my real problem was not so much the lack of password, but lack
of permission on the /etc/passwd file. It was shipped with 600; I set them
to 644, and it fired up like a charm.
But now, I have a new problem. The new problem is this:
Now that I have the source compiled and their binaries installed, I go to
create the demo database with the following command:
# demodb demo -c
and it gives me a message to the effect of:
creating database demo. Please wait.
And I waited... and waited... and waited...
I got so impatient, I type CTRL-C to quit it.
A ps -a told me that the command "creatdb -c demo" was running, and somewhere
in there, the program dies. However, I can quit it easily.
However, Zeyd and I are corresponding about this.
