OK, my face is red. I figured out that I needed to type 'ps -aux' in order
to see the crond and lpd entries that started up at boot. Now I understand
why cron works even though I couldn't see it in the ps list.
My next question is this: The docs for vixie cron say that I can change
a crontab file and crontab will tell the cron daemon, thus obviating the
need to kill and restart crond. This isn't working. Can anyone shed light
on this?
