Subject: Am I the only one having wierd problems with 0.99.5?

Ok, I hope this won't sound like a whine...

I've been running Linux on two PC's since last July. 0.99.4 works just
great on both. 0.99.5 exhibits some rather puzzling symptoms.

I installed 0.99.5 from the complete source tar file on both of these.

On my PC at work (a no-name 486dx with 16megs, ide hard disks, and a
SMC Elite-16 E-net card) I use X with Openlook all the time. In emacs
telnet frequently stops noticing the return key. Just telnet buffers;
otherwise fine and this never happens under 0.99.4. I've gone back to
0.99.4 on this machine because this was driving me to distraction and
I haven't a clue where to look for the problem.

On my PC at home (a no-name 386dx with 8megs, an ide hard disk, aha1542
scsi and Archive Viper 150es tape) everything went fine with 0.99.5 for
two days until (for the first time ever) the box locked-up solid with the
following messages in the syslogd messages file:

Feb 12 19:48:21 ekrus vmlinux: floppy I/O error
Feb 12 19:48:22 ekrus vmlinux: dev 021d, sector 0
Feb 12 19:48:22 ekrus vmlinux:
Feb 12 19:48:22 ekrus vmlinux: floppy I/O error
Feb 12 19:48:22 ekrus vmlinux: dev 021d, sector 2
Feb 12 19:48:22 ekrus vmlinux: MINIX-fs: unable to read superblock

This may have happened when my "Better Half" logged-off and powered-down
our old 286 that she was using to read mail/news (connected to the 386 via
ttys0 and a null-modem cable). Yes, I know all about the tty changes in
0.99.5 and had dealt with that for the line connected to the modem.
I've gone back to 0.99.4 on this machine as well.

Has anyone else seen similar? I wish I could provide more a more detailed
description of the problem but this is as good as I can do for now.

Ken
