You mentioned "large swap space"... Well, that's nice, but it's *slow*.
You need more RAM. I know 8 MB sounds like a lot, but when you're doing
X Windows, it's more like a recommended *minimum*. Get more RAM and you'll
see *drastic* improvements. I can practically guarantee it.
