I'm sure glad all you source pushers have so much money for disk drives.
Maybe you'd like to send me one? I've got a 100MB drive which is split
50 Linux, 45 Dos, 5 shared swap (yes, shared between linux and dos;
amazing what one can do with dd and a limited budget). I've barely got
room for the binaries, let alone the sources. With my expenses in the 5
digit range, I can't very well go out and buy a $1000 disk drive so that
I'll have the space to build everything I want to install, even if I
don't keep the sources on line.
Also, since I'm not very Unix literate yet, it really pisses me off when
I sick my 486sx20 on a set of sources and it either fails to build or it
compiles for 4 hours and fails to run. It's not highly likely with my
limited Unix knowledge that I'm going to find out why it doesn't work.
If you folks want people to run your software, it would definitely help
people like me if you would take the time and effort to put together a
binary kit when possible. The vast majority of what I've seen available
ought to be capable of being distributed as binaries.
