From: urlichs@smurf.sub.org (Matthias Urlichs) Subject: Directory rename FX Date: 11 Feb 1993 23:34:23 +0100
Renaming a directory seems to cause an inconsistency in the kernel:
$ cd /tmp ; mkdir x ; cd x
$ (cd ../ mv x y )
$ cd .
.: No such file or directory
$ ls -lid . ../y
7784 drwxr-xr-x 2 root system 32 Feb 12 00:28 .
7784 drwxr-xr-x 2 root system 32 Feb 12 00:28 ../y
$ cd ../y
$ cd .
$
This is 0.99.5, Minix FS.

Thoreau's Second Theory of Adaptation:
After designing a useful routine that gets around a familiar "bug" in
the system, the system is revised, the "bug" taken away, and you're
left with a useless routine.
