Subject: Using GCC to produce OS independant code.

Okay, One more annoying question.
Is it possible to get GCC to produce code that is OS independant.
Okay, so it does it for Linux, so how would I compile a C program,
such as hello world, combine it with some boot sector code, diskdump
it to floppy and have it work (without the Linux Kernel) Also,
what considerations must be taken when writing code to be used this
way. Sure, I can't really call exec and spawn, but what else? In
other words, what system independant stuff must I rewrite myself.

  Thanks...
