Subject: *** HELP NEEDED TO START X ***
Date: Wed, 10 Feb 1993 14:36:33 GMT

 Fellow Linuxers,

     *** PROBLEM RUNNING X ***

I have just installed the latest SLS distribution of Linux
on my machine. It seems to work fine so far (it boots and
all) except that I am not able to run X. When I tried by
invoking "startx", I get a bunch of information about
the graphic configuration (which Linux seems to accept),
     then the following message appears:

Cannot open mouse: No such file or directory

        Fatal server error:
                           failed to initialize core devices
                                                            giving up.

xinit : Invalid argument (errno 22): unable to connect to X server
xinit : No such process (errno 3): Server error.

I am a fairly knowledgeable UNIX user but not an expert on UNIX
setup and on X. Any help will be greatly appreciated. My
     system configuration is as follows:

Gateway 2000 486/33Mhz with VESA local bus
       ATI Graphics Ultra Pro
       Mag Innovision 17" monitor
340 MB Western Digital Drive (~ 64 MB for Linux)
       Mouse connected to com1

I have not messed with anything after installation except
Xconfig. Maybe I have the monitor and graphics card
definition wrong for Xconfig. If anyone have the MAG
17" monitor and the ATI Graphics Ultra Pro and have gotten
X running, I will greatly appreicated if he/she mail me
his/her Xconfig. It also seems though, however, that
something is wrong with the mouse device configuration.

Please help. I am anxiously awaiting to see X on my screen.

     Thanks for all!!
