I've some bad experiences too finding the mouse :(
Configuration highlights:
=============================
Motherboard: 386DX with 8Mb
Video card : Trident8900 with 1mb
Monitor : Hyundai HCM421e Svga
Mouse : Genius GM-6000 (Microsoft compatible in 3-button mode)
In my case startx does work. First it generates some crap, then a black&white
raster (with mouse pointer 'X' which i can't move) and finally a blue screen
with in the upper left corner a red xclock icon. After that the mouse pointer
changes into one that's dragging a small window.....
But then it hangs, i can't use the mouse at all, and the computer is
completely stuck (only way to get out is using the reset button).
I tried all types mice and all ttyS* but none works.
Default i'm using Microsoft mouse and /dev/mouse -> /dev/ttyS0
The only way for me to get this far is to choose the first standard 640x480
resolution, and to set the Virtuals at 640 and 480 in Xconfig.
Another point to memorize is that i've tried the mouse test program in
/usr/X386/lib/X11/tst/mouse (or somewhere near), but that one didn't
recognise my mouse too... :(
Any suggestions to get the mouse working?
Thanks in advance,
