From: anurag@astro.as.arizona.edu (Anurag Shankar) Subject: Serial port problem - help please Date: 10 Feb 1993 09:07:30 GMT
I just installed SLS 0.99pl4 from tsx-11 on my hard disk.
I posted an earlier message regarding problems with kermit
complaining about "Could not write characters: I/O Error".
After installing X386 on the machine last night, I tried to
fire it with startx (I am just upgrading from .96, so I used
my old Xconfig file). Well, it worked fine except I found to
my dismay that the mouse doesn't work at all. After experimenting
with it for about 6 hours last night, I decided that my kermit
problem as well as the X mouse problem imply that my serial
ports are somehow not being recognized. I am assuming that
/dev/ttyS0 (major 4 minor 64) is COM1 (serial port 1) and
/dev/ttyS1 (major 4 minor 65) is COM2 (serial port 2).
Someone else tells me that he had the same problem, but that
it goes away if he uses the TAMU boot disk.
LinuXperts and gurus, can you make any sense out of this?
(I have to say in my defense that I looked everywhere in the
docs and faqs, but to no avail)
