Hi LinuXperts,

After happily running Linux .96 for a while, I finally decided to upgrade
using SLS. I did this last night. Everything worked fine as far as the
installation goes. After installing disks a1-a4, b1-b6, I roamed around,
trying to see what new and nifty things .99pl2 (or is it pl4?) has. I
quickly found that my line to the world at large (kermit) was not functioning
properly. Specifically, after I configured .kermrc (here is what it looks
like):

set line /dev/modem
set baud 9600
.
.
.
connect

I fired up kermit. The red light on the modem lit up, but then it complained:

Could not read characters, disconnecting

or something like that. I'm sure it is something simple but I don't know
what it is. Any help will be appreciated.

Also, I tried to test the lpr with my HP Laserjet IIP. I started lpd, then
tried to lpr an ascii file. I got this fearsome message: "lp1 on fire",
then the printer printed many pages with just one word on each. Is this
because the tcp/ip stuff has to be configured properly before the printing
utilities will work?

Many thanks in advance for the help.

A.
