Subject: SWAP and large memory usage

I was trying to see if swap really functioned, so I loaded up 12
copies of xfig before free registered using the swap file. Then I tried
to leave X by the usual cntrl-alt-enter sequence. It exited in the sense that
the mouse froze and a few windows might have disappeared, but it didn't make
it back to the console leve. This was 99.4 with older X version (not newer
SLS or TAMU version).
