Subject: Linux Boot problem
I bought a 212 MB IDE Hard Drive straight from the manufacturer. It has never
had ANYTHING on it. I decided to install Linux on it. Here is the problem:
Whenever I try to boot from it, I get a MISSING OPERATING SYSTEM error.
I've installed Linux from the Installation disks, used fdisk to give it a maste
r boot record, I set everything in Linux to recognize the correct partition as
the boot partition, and it still gave me the error. I then formatted the entir
e disk as an MSDOS system disk, and it booted up MSDOS fine. I then deleted th
e MSDOS partition and created Linux partitions, and reinstalled Linux. I STILL
get the same error.
If I boot from a floppy, then I can access the Linux drive without any problem;
but the Hard Drive REFUSES to boot due to this MISSING OPERATING SYSTEM error.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is? I cannot seem to make it boot f
rom the HD no matter what I do with Linux.
HELP and thanks,
Eylon
