Subject: problems with term/slap

I've been trying and then giving up on term for some time now, but this
time I am determined to get it to work.

Basically, when I run term and then trsh, everything is fine for a couple
of seconds, then it just hangs. Running term in debug mode = 64, as suggested,
shows that the local side is still reading my input characters, but nothing
happens anyway.

I followed Michael's advice in the README file and ran the linecheck program,
but it didn't do much. It only prints a couple of lines, then it hangs too.

Also the term_setup man page makes reference to some program called "linerem",
but that program doesn't come with the term102 tar file that I have. The only
place it is even in the Makefile is on the "realclean" target line.

Here's the linecheck output:

remote output:
=======================

Handshaking
Handshaking sucessful
  0 sending char

================

local (linux) output:
=======================
Handshaking
unexpected packet: BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB
BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB
unexpected packet: 0 A

 <XC> t

 Entering Terminal Mode
 << HANGUP >>

=========================

I am forced to hang up the line after running linecheck because the remote
end won't exit.

These problems may be tied to the fact that I have to go through TWO
terminal servers to get to my workstation at work. There is an alternate route,
but line noise is so bad, I can't even use it for a regular login session. The
two terminal server route is also the only one with faster than 2400 baud
modems available.

I would really like to get term working properly, so if you have any
suggestions, I would truly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Scott
