Subject: How far and how fast has Linux spread? From: hamilton@golem.wcc.govt.nz (Michael Hamilton) Date: 7 Feb 1993 18:52:13 +1300
It's about 1 year since I first installed linux on my hard drive. I
first booted it in New Zealand on (or possible before) 23rd Jan 1992.
And it was first installed on hard disk by Mark Rodgers
(rodgers@wcc.govt.nz) over the weekend of 25/26 Jan 1992, and by me on
the 28th. I don't know if anyone else in NZ beat us to it.
All this has got me wondering how far and fast linux has spread. I'd
like to conduct a small informal survey or those who installed linux
on or before 31st MARCH 1992.
-----------------------------
I'm choosing the "earlier" days because I don't want my mailbox bombed
with thousands of replies. Please send me a one line MAIL message
giving an APPROXIMATE HARD DISK installation date in the following
format:
YYYY MM DD textual address of installer and site of importation
eg.
1992 01 25 rodgers.wcc.govt.nz
1992 01 28 hamilton.wcc.govt.nz
Multiple installations can be included as illustrated. A subject line
of LINUX SPREAD SURVEY would be appreciated. Installations no longer
installed still count. LAST DATE FOR REPLIES 14th FEBRUARY, an
appropriate day considering the accolades that Linux often draws.
Replies by news postings will NOT be accepted.
I'll process with awk and summarise in a couple of weeks.
Thanks.
