From: daniel@lamont.ldgo.columbia.edu (Dan Quoidbach) Subject: Newbie question, about SLS package Date: Fri, 5 Feb 1993 13:04:38 GMT
This is perhaps the most basic question I could pose. I've read the FAQ,
read the SLS.FAQ and downloaded the files but still can't seem to get the
installation to go. I used rawrite to make disks a1 and a2 and used dos
copy to make all other disks. I've booted disk a1, stuck in disk a2 and
used fdisk to make my linux partitions. I've used mkfs on my partitions and
have run doinstall. Things go well until disk a3. No, this isn't the FAQ
about the message "magic match failed" although I do see that. But after
that message, I'm told "perhaps you've put in the wrong disk" or some such
message, and asked if I want to continue. If I say yes, it just keeps
asking me the same question. If I say no, I'm asked if I have a 486DX and
then it wants to write the boot disk. I'm never asked for disk a4 and the
boot disk hangs when I attempt to use it. I assume I'm doing something
dumb, but I'm pretty dang sure I've got the right files on the right disks.
Any ideas? Please don't tell me to read the FAQ, cause I've done it and am
still doing it (pretty darn big document!). Perhaps I need to provide more
info., but if you are willing to help, perhaps we should take it to email.
Thank you for your responses.
