Sys V ipc (which does semaphores, ipc and shared memory) is not included
in the "regular" kernel, but there is a package, called ipcbeta, which can
be added to the kernel. ipcbeta is included in the SLS distribution of
Linux. To get it running, you have to patch and recompile the kernel, but
this was no problem with my 99.4 - kernel, and it shall work with 99.2
kernel, which is distributed with SLS. When you get Linux the time will
come anyway, that you patch and recompile the kernel, so don't think this
is too bad.

I myself use IPC for Postgres, which I try to port to Linux.
