Mine works perfectly (I have the VGA Wonder/XL).

ls -l /dev/bmouseatixl # Can't remember if I picked this name or
                                # found it in a release
                                # - just make sure the entry in Xconfig
                                # - coincides
crw-rw-rw- 2 bin bin 10, 3 Dec 12 15:48 /dev/bmouseatixl

# the major/minor numbers are the important things here (10, 3)
# Try "ls -l /dev | fgrep '10,'" and find the entry that has minor device
# number 3.

When you configure the kernel (with "make config"), make sure you select the
ATI mouse (hmmm ... you have the SLS release, I presume the ATI driver is
in there and that it doesn't conflict with the others).

Then, in /usr/X386/lib/X11/Xconfig I have (among other things):

Busmouse "/dev/bmouseatixl"

I think that's it (email me if you think I left something out, or
you still can't get it to work).
