I am considering the acquisition of another IDE drive (>250MB) to install
Linux & X Windows on. My current configuration is such:

486DX/50, VESA local bus, Opti chipset, 256K L2 cache, AMI BIOS.
8Mb RAM
Orchid Farenheit 1280+/VLB SVGA video adapter
255 meg Western Digital IDE drive w/local bus controller
4 serial ports, 1 with 16550 UART & attatched V.32bis modem, etc...
Single 3.5" floppy

Here's what I need to know:

        1. Does anyone see any problems with this setup & Linux? I want to keep
my first IDE drive dedicated to DOS & Windows, and the second IDE
            just bootable Linux & X.

        2. From what FTP site can I get a full installation of Linux and X, along with
comprehensive instructions for its installation and configuration?

        3. What are the best resources for the acquisition of new Linux software
that I will need (GOOD term program, TeX, Emacs, etc...)?

Please reply E-mail so I may gather the responses and post them later.

Thank you!
