The code is called hpcdtoppm, and it does a reasonably good job of
converting PCD images to ppm format. The code is available on several
anon-ftp sites (eg: ftp.uu.net:/usenet/comp.sources.misc/volume34).
When the code was released I was working at Kodak Research on the
Photo-CD project and you're right in saying that some Kodak reps
were very upset, however hpcdtoppm uses *no* Kodak proprietary code.
Kodak has since dropped it complaint.
