From: cs230421@vtaix.cc.vt.edu (Fred L. Drake) Subject: Haskell under Linux Date: 10 Aug 1993 17:04:40 GMT
I'd like to thank everyone who responded to my query about Haskell/LML
implementations available for Linux. I've been quite overwhelmed by the
number of responses, both on comp.os.linux and through the mail.
Since a summary of the ftp sites was posted to comp.os.linux, I won't
repeat the list here, but what turned up was that Gofer, Haskell B, and
LML were all available as binary distributions. Tossing them on the disk
was all it took to get them working, and they do all seem to work.
The one comment many people shared about the Haskell B compiler from
Chalmers was that it consumed a great deal of memory. Using the interpreter,
I was able to run slowly with 16Mb of physical memory (I keep an additional
32Mb of swap space around, which probably didn't matter) so long as I
wan't using X Windows. Running under X was simply too slow for me. Gofer,
of course, didn't have that problem.
Again, thanks to all who responded!
