Ok, I tried again, and this is what happens:
***NOTE: convention for prompts
linux% is the tcsh prompt on my linux box
remote% is the tcsh prompt on the unix system at school (UB)
(armstrong.cs.buffalo.edu)
UBNET> is the prompt where we connect to various machines here
at UB (Xyplex).
L-kermit> kermit prompt on my linux box
1. Use kermit to dial in and log on my school account as usual.
2. Send break character for linux kermit (CTRL-\ b).
remote%
**BREAK**
UBNET> set sess past /* set login session passthrough */
UBNET> res 1 /* resume login session */
remote%
3. start term on the computer at school
remote% term
4. get back to local linux kermit prompt (CTRL-\ c)
5. get out of kermit
L-kermit> ^Z
/* kermit is suspended */
6. run term on linux box
linux% term < /dev/modem > /dev/modem &
7. attempt to make connection
linux% tredir 2112 23
linux% telnet localhost 2112
telnet: unable to connect to remote host: Network is unreachable.
What's wrong? How do I fix it? Should I be running kermit in the
background? Please help me! Thanks.
