Subject: Which SCSI controller to get for Linux and OS/2
Date: Tue, 10 Aug 1993 03:30:24 GMT

I am wondering which ISA SCSI controller I should get to use with OS/2 and
Linux. I have read the faqs and am leaning towards the Adaptec 1542/1540
setup as it seems to be widely accepted and generally compatable. I also know
this card has been around a while and I am wondering if something better
has come along. I am looking to spend about $100-$200, thought I would be
willing to spend more if there were obvious gains.
Here is a list of the cards that both OS/2 and Linux support (according to
the OS/2 2.1 manual and the Linux FAQ). I would appreciate any comments
about personal experiences with these adapters.

Adaptec 154x
Adaptec 174x (doesn't matter, I have an ISA bus)
Future Domain 880, 885
Western Digital 7000

These are just the ones I saw, I am sure there are others.
Thanks for any help.
