Hello Linuxers,
I'm a happy Linux user. But there is one thing that disturbs me:
It is VERY seldom, that source (e.g. X11 sources) compile right out of the box,
even small things. I am not an expert, rather a u*x newbie. A friend told me of
another free Unix, that runs on PC's, amiga, mac etc .. it is called NetBSD.
Since this is true BSD, many sources should compile rather nice. NetBSD also
offers X11 and all the rest, or am I wrong? So, I'd like to hear the advantages
of each system. I don't want to start a flamewar and postings like "linux
sucks" or "NetBSD sucks" won't help a lot. I'd like to see sort of a list
containing advantages/disadvantages of each system from peaople who really
know what they say (no "It is not my opinion, but I heard..." things).
My institute is thinking of putting a freeu*x box in the net, but this would
require CLEANLY running tcpip, which is surely not an advantage of linux right
now .. NetBSD has BSD tcpip .. and this stuff works.
I need arguments to convince them .-)
