Subject: SLS 1.03: HD not Recognized!?
Date: Mon, 9 Aug 1993 20:37:53 GMT

I FTPd SLS 1.03 on Saturday in preparation to install it on several
machines. On one of the machines i tried installing it on, it didn't seem
to recognize the hard drive. It was an IBM PS/1 486SX/33 with a 170 meg
IDE hard drive. The installation program simply tells me, "Linux cannot
find any hard drives!" FDisk tells me, "error reading /dev/hda".

It worked fine on a 386/40DX with a 120 meg IDE hard drive. The only
difference I can see is that the A1 disk I got was a1.5 as in the 5 1/4"
a1 disk. The boot floppy drive on the 386 is a 5 1/4" drive. The boot
drive on the PS/1 is a 3 1/2" drive. I wrote the image to a 3 1/2" and it
booted fine. Would this have anything to do with the fact that it isn't
recognizing the hard drive?
