Subject: SLS install: doesn't see file - cache problem?
Date: 9 Aug 1993 14:43:14

I got the SLS distribution from tsx-11.mit.edu Saturday (8/7/93)
night. I can boot off of diska1 and install diska2, but for
diska3 it complains that file diska3 doesn't exist.

I can see the file 'diska3' on both SCO and DOS boxes, so I know
its on the disk. However, I was earlier having trouble reading
some DOS floppies, with basically the same symptoms: it couldn't
see a file on the disk.

I have an Ultrastore ESDI caching controller to which both my
ESDI hard drive and floppies are connected. Is it possible that
the controller is caching the information, so I'm seeing the old
image? When I try to access diska3, the floppy access light goes
on briefly, but that could just be making sure that the disk is
still in the drive.

The other possible explanation is that the file is, indeed, seen
but that it contains information other than what doinstall wants,
resulting in a (wrong) error message (file not found).

Any other suggestions?
