You are right. If you really need third party products linux loses.
But if you can get all you need from the public domain (or GNUish
stuff) every comercial unix is the wrong decision. Most people
who need unix for private do not need commercial software. So I
trashed my ESIX for linux because linux (0.99pl9) is more stable
and works faster and X really works. And the jojo effect is gone. :-)
