Subject: Has anyone gotten SLS 1.03 to work?
Date: 8 Aug 1993 22:57:33 GMT

If anyone has gotten SLS to work, please let me know how. I tried to install
it on a 386 notebook with 4Mb RAM and 80Mb hard disk. I configured /dev/hda1
as a 7Mb root partition, /dev/hda2 as a 4Mb swap partition and /dev/hda3 as
a 72Mb /usr partition. When I tried the default installation routine on
the a1 disk, the program failed to make use of /usr (/dev/hda3) rather it
tried to install everything on /dev/hda1.
After I redid the install using the old method, doinstall /dev/hda1 /dev/hda2
/usr, I was able to install the a,b, and c disks without any errors. The
install program just kept plowing ahead and ran LILO without asking me if
I wanted to or not, and plowed into the stuff about network addresses. Now,
I don't mind the LILO, as I don't have room for dos anyhow, but the network
stuff is totally useless for my machine. So I just typed returnes and
accepted the default entries.
Now when I try to reboot my machine, all I get is a "LI" at the beginning
and then it hangs. I tried to use the boot disk made during the install
script, but it comes up in a funny state with lots of errors and nothing
accessable such as grep, ls, and other normal type commands. I can't figure
out wherre I am in the file system and I can't get any files to work at all.
So, is there anyone who can give me some hints about how to install SLS 1.03
and/or tell me where I can find SLS 1.02 again? I didn't have enough disks
to keep both around and I need a working linux when I leave town next weekend.
Please help.
