I just tried to install the NEW SLS distribution this weekend. I don't have
enough disks to keep the older version of SLS around. The new install script
seems to have problems of the following form.

1) It didn't run the doinstall script with the correct arguments. IE. It tried
to install the entire thing in /dev/hda1 which wasn't where I had set things
up to run from fdisk. I had created a 7Mb partition for / and a 72Mb for /usr
but this was lost in the new install program.

2) The install script just plowed into asking about IP addresses and such. I
don't have any kind of network connection for my machine and it didn't like
that fact. It wanted me to be connected somewhere and I had to just hit
returns and accept the default entries because I didn't have the first clue
what it was asking for. Aparently, the default entries are insufficient to
set things up correctly as I can't get it to boot up.

3) The install also didn't ask if I wanted to run LILO or not, it just
went ahead and ran it anyhow. This isn't really a problem for me, I only
have 2 linux partitions and a swap partition on my machine anyhow.

4) When it tries to boot from the hard disk, all it will do is print LI
instead of LILO. It hangs up after that. If anyone knows where I can find
out what the heck it thinks it's doing, please let me know.

5) When I boot from the floppie that was written during the SLS install
program, I get numerous errors about find, grep, and other crucial UNIX
programs such as ls and cat which arn't found. I can't seem to move about
the filesystem and I can't look at any files or execute anything. Im stuck
there.

I am leaving next weekend and had a working linux system that I wanted to
upgrade. Now I have nothing! Please HELP! I am in desparate need of a
working LINUX when I leave town.
At this point, I don't care how I get it fixed, I just need it working again.
Can someone tell me how to make this new SLS install correctly? Can someone
give me access to the previous version of SLS disk a,b,and c? Please e-mail
to ron@argus.lpl.arizona.edu or call me on the phone at (602) 297-9055 or
somthing. Thanks,
