I am having difficulty setting up SLIP between my two machines. One
is a 486 with Linux, the other is a 286 with NCSA telnet and
[c]slipper or umslip. I do not think the problem lies on the DOS
side, I have tried several packages there according to instructions...

I have a null line between them running at 19200. There have been no
problems using it as a terminal for two months; so I don't think it's
the serial line.

On the linux side, I have set up a user accout with the shell
/etc/dipi, which is a shell script cotaining dip -i. This login has
an entry in diphosts according to the manpage and the sample file from
the net-2 dist. The other machine has an entry in /etc/hosts.

When it logs in, dip runs, but freezes halfway through printing it's
title banner, and apparently not doing anything to the routing tables
or like ifconfig. I have messed with ifconfig and route to set up
what ought to be there, but ping causes a "kernel unable to handle
paging request" and dump once I get them setup.

I've used 0.99.11 and 0.99.12.A.2 (that's too many version digits!!!),
and rebuilt dip with gcc 2.4.5 and libc 4.4.1, to no success....

Has anyone gotten this going? I would really like to get this
working...
