Subject: Toshiba T4400C -- linux and X?

Is anyone running linux and X on a Toshiba T4400C? In particular,
I wonder if it is possible to run X with 256 colors (or shades of gray).
I had to install a special Toshiba driver to get 256 colors in
MS Windows. DESQview/X currently will just do 16 colors.

I need to be able to show medical images, so I need 256-colors.
