Subject: [Q] KA9Q Setup-Linux/Internet Link

Grettings fellow Linuxers. I'm interested in setting my Linux machine up to
use the Internet through a SLIP connection with a dial-up host. I was told
that SLIP for Linux doesn't exist and that I should look into KA9Q. Well, I
did and I'm confused.

I've read the READ.ME file. It seems to general to help me. I have the
correct serial line defined. I then dial-up to the host. After connection, it
asks me for the terminal type. I enter SLIP. Then it assigns me an IP
address. I took the IP address and put it in the startup.net file. Now, when
I try to telnet it sits there for a long time, flashes some lights on the modem
(Both Send and Receive) and returns Unknown host xxx.xxx.xxx. What's the deal
here? If you can help please contact me through email.

A few questions about the things defined in my startup.net file. What exactly
does the "domain suffix" command do? Is this for a nameserver or is it affixed
to hostnames if there is no "." in the address? What does the domain add
command do?

One general question: Will people on the Internet be able to call my machine
from the machinename I define or do they have to enter the IP address? I
assume since I'm not registered when I do this that they'll have to enter the
IP address.
