Help ! I tried to boot my PC under Linux today and got the
following when it tried to mount the root filesystem:
(BTW I'm running 0.99pl8-3)
HD: read_intr: status = 0x59
HD: read_intr: error = 0x40
(repeats ~15 times)
HD-controller reset
HD: read_intr: status = 0x59
HD: read_intr: error = 0x40
(repeats ~15 times)
harddisk I/O error
dev 0342, sector 114711
Kernel panic: ext2_read_inode: unable to read i-node block
When I boot from the A4 disk, and run e2fsck I get the
same thing during the "Reading directories and checking files"
part.
I left my PC running last night and it was off this morning. I think
a co-worker wanted to use it, rebooted it, and didn't know what to
do when it booted Linix, and shut it off, thus munging my filesystem.
Is there any recovery from this other than starting over from scratch ?
(If there is a certain co-worker may have her untimely death postponed) :|
