I have a similar problem. Lpr and lpc always print the error message: "can't start daemon".
I have checked EVERYTHING, I even changed all file permissions to those I found on
my office machine (where lpd works !), nothing has changed. The master daemon is running,
lpd.lock exists, /dev/printer exists, the queue works and the printer is ok too.
It's all looking fine, but lpd simply don't print anything.
Please help !
