Hmm... I just tried a ls -la | gerp garrett and it worked fine. I also tried a
ls -la | grep nosuchuser and it worked fine too. I am using .99pl9 and tcsh (I think
the version is 6.03 -- but I didn't compile it, and I couldn't find the version with
strings...).
Perhaps there is a bug with grep? Hmmm... I wonder what else could be causing your
problem...
